Poetic(s) Response

This is one of my favorite assignments because I got to express my love for writing poems and writing my own. I chose to write about the following:

1. An aspect of your identity (gender, ethnicity, class, sexual preference, abilities, religious/spiritual practice, etc…

2. A location or an object

3. A historical event or figure, or a current social issue (source article required)

“This assignment is focused on further developing topic analysis, creative generation, description, revision and editing skills. Now that you have read a variety of poetic styles and readings on poetics, along with Norton Chapters 37 & 40 (Classifying/Dividing and Defining), it is your turn to develop your own creative response in poetic form. Poems can be as long or as short as you like, though no single poem may exceed 2 pages. Each poem will take a different form and only one (1) can be a “found poem”. You will create three (3) poems and an analysis of your work (1-2 pages). The analysis is a brief exploration of your poetics and should speak to your process, as well as rhetorical choices.” Click on the link next to the paper plane icon to view my work.
